railenthe: (We're screwed.)

So I'm fasting…

Nrrgh. Rrlrgh.

Today, thanks to my impending scans, I have to fast. I can have water and clear soups.

I haven’t eaten solid food in about eight hours.

I am incredibly hungry. But I can’t have solids right now. Miso soup is just about the most involved thing I’m allowed to have right now—and we’re talking PLAIN miso soup. No onions, no scallions, no nothing. …I’ll admit it, the miso soup was pretty satisfying.

But I want meat.

And pasta.

Cheese.

Delicious cereals!

*looks wistfully at the fridge*

Well, I’ll be allowed to eat tomorrow after the scans are done.

*stomach growls*

Feed me…

I have only once eaten a taco (not from Taco Bell surprisingly) but it was not to my tastes.

Though ever since saltedpin brought up the idea of Cecil and Kain going to Taco Bell (and Cecil ADORING the food to the point of having seconds whilst Kain gets food poisoning for 3 weeks) I have been craving DDFF taco bell fic. I DON'T KNOW WHY BUT SOMETHING TELLS ME IT MUST EXIST.

You gotta get tacos and other Mexican fare from the right places. When they get it right, oh lordy is it ever delicious. Get it wrong, though, and you wind up with this over-cilantro'd train wreck mush.

I make mine with freeze-dried herbs that reconstitute into basically fresh equivalent. The spice must flow has to be just so. Another thing: the tortillas have to be just right.

This is England. It is near impossible to get the right Mexican fare over here. We get taco shells and tortillas from ready made kits and that's it.

Though allegedly things are better for Mexican grub here than they were in the 80s, supposedly back then you could only get them from ONE shop in London.

Is it bad I heard "This is England" Sparta-style?

It sounds like US shells/tortilla kits are a little better than what they're serving you guys. (Then again we're still allowed all those delicious artificial flavorings and questionably-edible colors.) Even a kit can make a decent taco, given the right attention.

Here, the trouble is with Asian fare. Mostly that most of the time when I look for 'tofu' or 'tamari' I get a dull look and a "whut is dat?"

Well that calls for this icon...

Most Brits aren't expected to like American grub. My nearest and dearest spread rumours that you guys coat everything in butter and serve gigantic portions that no Brit could possibly manage. Though likewise the US thinks of us for liking only bland food and eating nothing but fish and chips or steak and kidney pie.

Ah, we fare better with that because we have more health nuts and a considerable amount of asian immigrants. At least in London but that's one of the most ethnically diverse cities in the world so it's to be expected.

Uh...

Well...I would not say that we coat EVERYTHING in butter. But butter is so good, and it's in so many things. (You think that potatoes fried in butter is extreme, then meet gooey butter cake. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gooey_butter_cake)

Yes, our portions are often HUGE. I'm especially guilty of this one (I like my food) when I serve things like pasta or soups.

I've nothing against bland fare, but…I gotta have my variation. :o Some salt and vinegar, if nothing else!

I've not had fish and chips since that breakup…I should have them again at some time.

(What's steak and kidney pie?)

FFFFFFFFFFFF

LJ ate my Steak and Kidney pie comment.

Excuse me, must rage.
