MASSIVE UPDATE OF AWESOME: ACEN, Day 1

Three days of nothing but solid awesomeness.

Three days of bizarre costumes, photo opportunities, and crack.

…No, I didn’t dive into the net a la the Major in Ghost In The Shell (though I do love that series).  No, I’m talking about Anime Central 2011—Also known as Acen 2011—

ALSO KNOWN AS AWESOME!

So what went down?

Day 1

The day began with something you all remember from my last few posts: onigiri. But this time, breakfast onigiri, filled with tamagoyaki, cheese, and bacon.  Externally, though, they look no different from the others.  After one of those each and a Special K protein shake a piece, four of us piled into the car with our luggage and—

-whunk!-
So, the lugge is too big.  The trunk doesn’t close.  Coming up: Luggage!Tetris.

-fifteen minutes and three suitcase change later-

After adjusting our luggage again, four of us piled into the car with our luggage and went down to a Motomart to fuel up—that meant gas and energy drinks.  The signs were good from jump.

That’s gotta be a good sign right?

Next up, the car ride.  Aside from being LONG, it wasn’t eventful.

That is except for the Naming Game.  There were things like your stripper name, your fake ID name, and other stuff.  My Fake ID name works as a Drag Queen name, too.  Hello, Miz Margarita Salt!

-Timeskip!  Six hours later-

The line was daunting.  Disturbing.  I daresay it was the line from HELL.  …Actually it’ll be easier if I just show you the line.  JOIN ME!

Wide-angle resolution?  Yes!  Does it fit the entire line?  No!
You see, this was just the line to find out which line we were supposed to be in.

…I kid you not.

The line wasn’t a total waste of active time, though.  I snagged some nifty shots!  Including this one, which required me testing my ability to sprint to catch:

After our third line transfer (in which a random guy traded us each a Deoxys in exchange for starters he didn’t have!  Nifty!), those of us in the cash line were successful at getting our passes.

The guys in the credit line had to stand another two hours.  The computers had crashed, and so the high techers had to stand around like so many trees.  Durr hurr!

While I waited for the rest of them, I struck a victory pose with Domo-Kun.

By this time, the dealer room was closed.  But I did manage to snag a few shots of people leaving or closing down booths.

We left at last with our programs and badges.  The next plan:  Deciding what the next day would be!

The handwriting on our badges was even less legible than my doctor's prescriptions.  I was actually a little worried about whether we could get in tomorrow...

That's one awesome Onion Knight cosplay!

Were these the only FF cosplayers or are there more to come?

There were many Clouds--those will come tomorrow, since Day 2 was when I saw most of them--and quite a few Zacks, but there was a surprisingly flat number of FF cosplayers this year. Lots of Links, LOTS of Pokémon trainers of every stripe, a shocking number of Doctor Whos (...or is that Doctors Who?). And believe me, I went hunting for them. I had several targets in mind, but there just weren't many to find this time around.

Most of the photo ops were Day 2, and that one's gonna be BIG. I think I'll need a bowl of pasta to keep my strength up.

It occurs to me I didn't even see a single Sephiroth the entire weekend. Weird!
