behind her, her focus on the beautiful foliage surrounding them. She tries not to react as she hears buckles click and material rustle. The scenery around here is wonderful---yes, she should really devote all her attention to appreciating it---something that sounds like a drenched skirt hits the ground---her cheeks are on fire now.
Is he---when he said change did he mean everything? Including that… she can’t bring herself to even think the word. But she’s pretty certain he will… He doesn’t wear anything over it so it must’ve got soaked too… Does that mean he’ll take it off whilst she’s standing there!? Terra’s heart hammers hard against her ribcage at the thought.
And now that she’s thinking about it she can’t help but wonder about what’s underneath…
She’s never really seen one before---not that she should have but…she can’t help being curious.
Maybe just a quick peek…
NO, NO! He’s finally put trust in someone and she has no right to betray it over such a little thing! (Is it little she wonders? She wouldn’t be able to tell) She has to keep watch! She has to think of something else!
“Are you sure no one’s watching?” he asks with a huff. Terra can practically feel the heat pouring out of her face now; if he’s demanding to know if the coast is clear then he must be about to… “Yes!” she squeaks. Then she buries her face in her hands. She can’t risk a peek, no matter how vigorously the thought burns in her head.
But…then something else pops in her head. Isn’t there something else he’s hiding? He’s Zidane’s brother so shouldn’t he have a tail…?
Before she can stop herself Terra’s head has turned around to catch a flash of it---and then next thing she knows she’s lost her footing and is smack down on the ground.
“Ahem.” Terra buries her forehead into the ground immediately, her wavy hair a curtain shielding her eyes from what it is she shouldn’t see. “AH---I’msorryIdidn’tseeanything!!!” She gabbles, heart pounding into her throat.
Except she did. It was just a flash but her eyes still locked onto the Genome’s naked form. And they witnessed what they should not have. And amidst all the embarrassment clogging her brain still she wants to raise her head for a better look just to make sure what she saw was not a figment of her imagination.
“Get up.” He snaps, voice seething. Terra swallows and meekly obeys, head withdrawn and eyes shielded behind her hands. “Oh why bother, it’s not as though you’re not dying to leer at it.” The genome says bitterly as he returns to applying that blue outer-underwear. “Everyone else longs to gawp over it; why should you be any different? It’s not as though I should have any objections. I’m just some lowly creature that has no right to ask for something as minute as common courtesy when it comes to my tail. I’m not even human so what does it matter if I have feelings?”
Pangs of guilt flood Terra as she watches that odd golden appendage flit about in an angry motion.
“I’m sorry…I didn’t consider---” “---why should you?” This isn’t a question so much as a dark jab. “No, I should’ve! It was wrong of me to not consider your feelings and I’m sorry, I truly am!”
Kuja remains silent; making sure his jacket is on properly is more worthy of his attention it seems.
“But I think I understand…” A whisper escapes her lips, not filled with the same flustered awkwardness as before, despite it’s volume the tone is unwavering. “About not being a true human. That you’ll never fit in no matter how hard you try; at first I believed there never would be a place for me among them.”
Is he paying attention? Maybe she’s only saying this for herself.
“But everyone here is so warm and accepting that I almost forget I’m not like them, that it doesn’t matter of my origins.” Her hand goes to her heart. “They look past me being dangerous and like me for who I am…not what I am. I’m sure if you just give them a chance you’ll be able to feel this way too.”
