5: Rough Around The Edges

By: Railenthe

Rating: PG

Genre: Crack, Domestic!AU, Pastry-Shop

Warnings for: Silliness, some language.

Summary: The ‘Puf Pastry is still sans a pastry chef. It looked promising for a while, Kefka Palazzo’s delicious soufflé impressing Kuja—but the kitchen was an unacceptable casualty of his cooking, and so no dice. What next?

Ser, you possess not the look of a maker of pastry…

Calling your attacks!

Everyone does it.  It's useful sometimes: the only way you know that something is about to hit you upside your head.  But this can also backfire.

Take, for instance, Zidane.

Nerd Alert. )

While I am still working on a certain Kink Meme request—and did you know that our humble Dissidia/Duodecim meme has been featured on the Kink Meme page on TV Tropes?—I did finally finish a custom quest!

Now I just gotta figure out how to upload it.  What the fuckflans was my Mediafire access code again…?

The ending of 013 is lovely. Everyone goes home, with their crystals still shining with the light of the goddess Cosmos—with the exception of the Warrior of Light, who begins walking to from what I can guess is the south, moving toward the city of Cornelia, castle spires shining in the distance. He holds his crystal in one hand.

I’ll break the argument here to mention something that suddenly makes sense. The crystal that the Warrior of Light carries is blue, representing the Water Crystal in his world. The Water Crystal is located in the Sunken Shrine, near the town of…Onrac.

Consider the things that you learn in the reports, and keep them in mind, as I continue.

It’s a lovely image, isn’t it? Too bad that for all intents and purposes, it doesn’t happen.

…wait, what? )

…yes, I’ve overthought this.

railenthe: (Chibi Sora)

For me, this is something of a retcon.  When I first played the game:

  • I hadn’t played FFI yet.
  • I hadn’t played FFII yet either.
  • I hadn’t finished FFIII.  Still haven’t actually.  I WILL get the ultimate magics first, damn it.
  • I hadn’t finished FFIV.  Still haven’t.  I can’t sit through the first translation.
  • I was a boss-fight off from clearing FFV.  *Yeah, stalling*
  • I hadn’t played much of FFVIII.
  • I hadn’t played FFIX.  Still haven’t.  Any day now…dammit broken phone!
  • I’ve only backseat!gamed FFXI, but I know enough about it to pas.
  • Hadn’t played much into FFXII.
  • Know nothing about FFXIII.

…I’m not a slacker.  I’m just broke.

So…yeah. )

“I, GARLAND, WILL KNOCK YOU ALL DOWN!”

I seriously can’t say this enough.  I really can’t.

An awesome secret quote for Bartz would have been switching his EX Burst’s intro to “Sweet Christmas!”   I mean, imagine it right now.  I’ll wait.  XD

One for Kefka:  When you fight him in FFVI—I do believe it’s the incident at the Doma Base, right around the time Cyan marches in with his seriously Badass Boast—he uses the line “Eh?  You’re history, bub” right before the fight starts.
And then there’s the gem that comes during combat.

Sabin:  Kefka!  Wait!

Kefka:  *laughing* Wait, he says…do I look like a waiter?

This goes on for a while, until Kefka sics four mooks on you and gets away.

WE NEEDED THIS.

 EDIT

Because this was so damn short, here's something goofy.  Listen to me fail!  XD\

*trudges in, dragging her feet*

Long day.  Walked from train station.  Found out the Counterburst Forums are shutting down because the moderator is frustrated.  Now I’m depressed and need to inflict MUCH GRIEVOUS HARM to AI opponents to vent, and get a glass of icy cold cream!tea.

MEANWHILE HAVE A MEME.

Below: Lots of me not making sense! )

“I, Garland, WILL KNOCK YOU ALL DOWN!”

…partially nodded to when Zidane knocked him down, but I still wanted to hear him say it.  XD

Remember all of the dancers in FFIV?  Why does no one bring this up?  Team Cosmos needed some delicious scandal.BUT WAIT, THERE'S SLIGHTLY MORE! )

Here’s a demonstration of Mama Bear and Papa Wolf’s abilities.  SPECIAL NOTE:  Terra’s squishy because her level’s below the threshold for the course—I’m using a level accessory that requires me sticking a level under 20.

OH PERFECT--! )

Epic music just because.

railenthe: (Default)

And now, for the individual assist!faves.  This one’ll be a little quicker and less overthought.  XD

OH LOOK A LIST )

railenthe: (Default)

Well, hell, don’t ask me this question if you don’t expect me to be nerdy!  I will warn you now that my answer will be quite wordy.

I change assists like I change socks—in other words, enough that no one’s running the same rotation for more than 48 hours.  When I change equipment, I change assists.  When I change builds, I change assists.  When I plan for different types of runs (like the HURRY UP I NEED MEGALIXERS build I’ve gotten set up with Mateus) I change assists.

Depending on who I’m facing—and therefore whose head I have to mess with—I change assists.

Depending on my moveset, I change assists.

Depending on my crack-pairing mood at the time, I change assists.

Depending on the pattern the AI’s picked up (in the Labyrinth that is) I change assists.

I’m like Lady Gaga when it comes to assists—you NEVER know what to expect, even when you think you have an idea.

Now that that’s been said, I do have a few favorite assist combinations.

BTW:  Feel free to steal combinations.  I’ll be listing my favorite assists in general afterward in a second part.

*If you’d like me to test more combinations, let me know!

Surprisingly, not all of them are shippy.  Most of them are practical arrangements.

GO LONG DETAILED ENTRY THAT IS PROBABLY OVERTHOUGHT! )

railenthe: (DDFF×Pole OTP)

There are so many!  But, I’ll keep it short and go with the one that has been my saving grace for so many fights recently (not to mention netted me a WAY-under-ten-minutes Time Attack clear).

It’s…

Gilgamesh Morphing Time!

…lolwhut? )

railenthe: (DDFF×Pole OTP)

As the main list of questions of this meme started winding down I started thinking about the answer to this question.  It’s not a simple question, to be sure—I think this might be the tricksiest of them, actually.  Tricksy, in that it makes me think of all of the things that could have been but alas! are not.  Tricksy, in that I have to prioritize and figure out what it is that I want the most in the next game.

Considering what a question this is, I shall do my best to answer it in a way that makes sense.

I MAKE NO GUARANTEES THAT IT WILL.

SEE? I MAKE NO SENSE HURDUR. )

railenthe: (Default)

I’m gonna split this into the three operative sections because, frankly, I could go on for days about this one and not be done.  …Or not.  It just looks better properly split into sections and so here we go.  We shall begin with…

READY---GO!!!! )

Why, yes, Virginia!  You can beat Feral Chaos with Gabranth.

Alternate Title: FINAL FANTASY DRAFT PICKS

Hoo, boy.

I could go on for days about this one.  Although the majority of my demands were met in the release of Duodecim (LAGUNA! LAGUNA!), there were a few others that I would have liked to see make it into the roster.  Though they might not have gotten the attention that they would have merited—as several others have said before me, Square-Enix did themselves a bit of a disservice by limiting this title to a single UMD.   Considering the members of the fanbase that would spring upon this title like a starving wolf who has just found its first meal in days, I think that a two—or even three—disc release would have more than allowable.  I have managed a list of five of my top choices, however.  I go into some detail, though, complete with hypotheticals and the like, so here’s a heads-up so you know what you’re looking at when you click that cut.

Format: In pretty much every case, I’ll introduce my top draft picks and stick them in a hypothetical cutscene.  I will try to limit myself to one draft pick per title, but there might be cases where I can’t do that, either for sheer volume of the cast or for seriously awesome rating.

Game Title

Draft Pick.  Here follows my description of who, what, and why.  Expect some theorizing and guessing, as well as at least some logic behind things.

Railenthe:  [adjusts her glasses and clears her throat]  At any time when the font face changes to predominantly italics, I’ve created a hypothetical cutscene in which I’ve placed the draft picks, to illustrate the potential interaction between them and their counteparts.  There will be times when I reference/lift things wholesale from the script, but because this is mostly out of thin air, those will be minimal.  Gestures, movements, and the like will be in brackets, kind of like stage directions in a play/screenplay.  [clears her throat again]

Let’s begin with the wild mass ranting!

Long post is fucking long!!!!one )

railenthe: (Default)

Truth be told, there are a lot of these.  Most of these were combat related, some were not.  Some weren’t even part of gameplay at all—cutscenes, even!  So I’ll take a bit of creative liberty here, and list them in category-list form.

BIG LONG LIST IS GO! )

This was written offline using a third-party client.  So it might look a little strange.
I’ll ask that you bear with me; until I know when the RTF editor on LJ is functional again

I bet you expected something about Feral Chaos here, didn’t you?

Just knew that I’d go on about the whole snafu that led up to me tasting bloody, salt-tinged death at the hands of that multi-armed monstrosity, didn’t you?

*buzzer*  WRONG!

GODSDAMN TREES! )

You know, I could wax poetic about the curbstomp that was the defeat that goes here today, but instead of doing that, I shall provide a battle replay, and a mini-fic. I’d finally developed a strategy—after the defeats of Prishe, Laguna, Lightning and Yuna—but somewhere along the line something went wrong and I panicked.

…then everything went wrong.

In the space of a few moments I went from rage, to dis pear despair, and then looped right back to incoherent rage.

You know the moment: the moment when you realize you’re doomed, when the line from Dante’s Inferno comes to mind unbidden—“Abandon all hope, all ye who enter here…”
