I’m gonna split this into the three operative sections because, frankly, I could go on for days about this one and not be done. …Or not. It just looks better properly split into sections and so here we go. We shall begin with…
Musical Wishlist
Most of my demands were met with the release of Duodecim, but I have a few Most Wanted’s here.
FFI—I’d like to see some of the arrangements from the Dawn of Souls release. Nostalgic chiptunes are one thing, but the stuff that shows up in the remake seriously had some punch. And the re-arrange of the main battle theme here is kinda fun. The two tracks that you hear during battles with Garland’s Elemental Archfiends would be perfect—they are that perfect mix of epic fight music and ‘Hear this sound, and say OH FUC—” I mean seriously—my first fight with Lich was almost a disaster. The party was underleveled and weapons did very little damage against him. Thank the heavens for my white mage Noah. Also, the music for the final fight versus Chaos and—I can’t remember if the music is the same versus Chronodia, but that one, too.
FFII—THAT ONE TRACK YOU HEAR VERSUS THE LAMIA QUEEN. YEAH.
FFVI—Remember the song the orchestra plays when you crash the opera? Right after you foil Ultros’s plans and (accidentally) knock the stars unconscious, Locke improvises—badly, according to the Impresario—and Ultros…well I can never tell if he’s improvising or if he is in fact just a giant octopus-shaped ham. The crowd loves it, though, and so the Impresario runs with it, shrugging it off with an “Ai ya! What horrible acting! …oh well. MUSIC!” It’s the only time you hear this music, but it’s great. It’s also the only time you pull a pincer attack against a boss.
It’s also the only time I can seriously hear a reasonable explanation for having someone with a Yiddish accent in a Final Fantasy. I don’t know why but for some reason it works. IN MY HEAD.
FFVII—The music from the arena-coliseum-whatever it is thing from the Gold Saucer. It’s my only demand here because we got Crazy Motorcycle and Birth Of A God (btw, S-E—were you trying to throw us off renaming that track ‘The Chase?’ Growing up with my borrowed copy of the OST it was always Crazy Motorcycle. Even OCRemix plays off of this name with the ‘motor crazycycle’ remix). And maybe the original mix—or Black Mages cover—of Fight On. I like the arrangement we got, but it would be nice.
Outfit Wishlist
(Alternate title: FASHION [TURN TO THE LEFT!])
((YOU CAN’T MENTION FINAL FANTASY FASHION WITHOUT REFERENCING DAVID BOWIE AT LEAST ONCE. PROVEN FACT.))
FFI—Yes, I’ve got one for here! Blonde!Fighter! Frankly I think he’s adorable! Alternately, a Red Mage reference.
((Yes, I do in fact absolutely <3 that little waif of a mage.))
FFII—Some sort of take on Firion’s non-rebel look from the FMV. (My demands for Mateus have been satisfied. Thank you, Square-Enix—The Four Faces of David Bowie are pleasing to us.)
FFIII—I would be highly amused with an alt that referenced Arc, especially since Dissidia!OK’s personality is NOWHERE NEAR his adorable timid nature.
FFV—Now that we have Dancer!Bartz (even though for some reason I still can’t download him), my other demand is Mystic Knight!Bartz. It’s the closest we’ll probably get to seeing Minwu—here’s your chance to prove us wrong, S-E. If that doesn’t work out…Bardtz.
*stabbed*
FFVI—A take on Kefka, pre-insanity. We never see sane!Kefka in-game but you hear about it from Cid, who mentions it in passing as you make your escape from Vector. And since Terra never got to see that opera that the rest of us never saw the actual end of either I think that she should get something fancy as a nod to that scene. Perhaps something in a high-cut evening gown, with her hair loose like in the ending.
FFVII—Miss Cloud. By extension, Aerith will need the outfit she wore during what has come to be known as the Wall Market Incident, and so will Tifa. We can’t have our team of pretty ladies (…and Cloud) broken up, now can we?
Abilities/Skills Wishlist
FFI—it’s not been seen in its original form since the original game—it seems to be a totally different spell in FFXI, sharing only its name—but some incarnation of the Dia family of spells would have been interesting to see. Dia/ra/ga/ja is a family of white magic exclusive to the White Mage and Wizard class that inflicts damage over the entire field against all undead enemies. Obviously it would have been altered somewhat for this case, but S-E has pulled a Missed (Memetic) Moment of Awesome in not allowing the Warrior of Light to make his foes literally bathe in the light.
*stabbed for the terrible pun*
…yeah, I’m mashing classes together, but why not? As clearly devoted as the Warrior of Light is, I see no problems in the world having made this exception. I’ve a theory here, but now’s not the place. I must stay on topic!
FFII—HEY, FIRION! You went through a lot of crap getting that Ultima Tome. Why, might I ask, are you not wielding it?
Another missed moment—possibly just aborted story arc—in which Firion’s knowledge of this spell, the first appearance of a revered/feared spell, could have served both as an awesome attack and a nice Take That to Mateus. And this first appearance is awesome too—it looks absolutely nothing like the Ultima we’re familiar with.
FFV—We need more Blue Magic.
FFVI—Terra naturally learns Drain. I’m curious why this never shows up. Maybe they took a bit of creative license by subbing in Graviga (which if it lands at the right timing is OVER FRICKEN POWERED), but I wouldn’t have minded seeing it.
______
And there you have it. My Most Wanted lists.
We're sorry. Acts of Genome are not covered under this policy.
Date: 2011-07-01 04:43 am (UTC)IT WOULD HAVE TO BE.
*watches fluffy kid juggle marble-sized Ultima balls*
Kuja: Aww—he's a prodigy!
Duane: He's an insurance liability—
Kuja: Pardon?
Duane: Nevermind! *sidesteps away*
Genome-Esperkin-Human hybrid. Surely that is under some special warranty?
Date: 2011-07-01 04:54 am (UTC)Awww...
Of course when a fight breaks out between the girl and the boy then the problems really start...
Girl: *pulls boys tail*
Boy: *shrieks and hurls marble-sized Ultima hail over her*
*both kids turn fluffy and begin blasting magic at one another as the orphans run for cover*
Orphan: MAMAAAAAAAAA!!!
Terra: Not again! *swoops in to pull them apart*
Katerin: *to Duane* At least our child is normal.
The day their first child cast magic was a proud day. That was until the next day when they awoke to find that she'd completely blown up her bed. Suddenly bedwetting seemed a much more desirable problem.
Also, how do you think the orphans react to Mama having babies of her own?
Re: Genome-Esperkin-Human hybrid. Surely that is under some special warranty?
Date: 2011-07-01 11:03 pm (UTC)Another kid: No, it's gotta be two!
Yet another kid: No, it's one big one!
*the orphans start arguing*
Kuja: I'm guessing we should give them the talk all at once?
Terra: …didn't we have strawberries somewhere?
Re: Genome-Esperkin-Human hybrid. Surely that is under some special warranty?
Date: 2011-07-01 11:14 pm (UTC)Kuja: I mean someone's got to eventually. Heavens, the questions they had when they saw you covered in red down---
Terra: Strawberries, now.
Kuja: But strawberries aren't native here. I'd have to journey all the way to Jidoor to---
Terra: Then get to it while the suns still up. Oh and some chocolates would be nice too.
Kuja: Bu---
Yet another other kid: Mama, are you big because you're eating so much?
Terra: Well Mama gets so hungry lately...
Kuja: *facepalm*
Terra: Strawberries!
Kuja: *snaps to it*
I bet I sound silly through the walls
