railentheAs the main list of questions of this meme started winding down I started thinking about the answer to this question. It’s not a simple question, to be sure—I think this might be the tricksiest of them, actually. Tricksy, in that it makes me think of all of the things that could have been but alas! are not. Tricksy, in that I have to prioritize and figure out what it is that I want the most in the next game.
Considering what a question this is, I shall do my best to answer it in a way that makes sense.
I MAKE NO GUARANTEES THAT IT WILL.
Sequels/Prequels. I’ll frankly be satisfied as long as we get something. This game is like crack—you pick it up and you try it. Fifteen minutes later you’re like “I CAN QUIT WHENEVER I WANT—ooh, but I got bonuses today. Oh, I’ll just check my mail and—” And then you’re toast. I’d prefer to see a sequel, but as I said, I’ll take anything.
The hypothetical sequel needs to explore a little fact that comes up at the end of the main scenario. Not really a spoiler because it’s kind of hard to miss:
What happens with Cosmos?
She split her power—and by extension most of herself—into those crystals. Those crystals go with the heroes to their native worlds—and quite possibly alter the course of history for some of those worlds. (I could go into theory here but unless specifically asked I’ll keep the trees tied up.) So there’s a little bit of the Goddess of Harmony gone back to each world.
Just how much, though? And what effects will it have on the world?
For instance, what would happen if, in FFVIII, a sorceress with her influence turns up?*
*Note: My knowledge of FFVIII is not extensive. I’m wild guessing here. So for the love of Cosmos please don’t shoot me.
How would that affect the balance?
And because there must be balance, what would rise up to oppose her?
BRING US STUFF, SQUARE ENIX!!!
Original Quests. Dear Square-Enix:
WHY did you deprive us, your non-Japanese fanbase, of official quests? Do you plan on rectifying this at any time soon? If not, why not? Do you not see what you can do here? You could—gasp!—turn around you financial forecast for the year!
More importantly, you can erase the ire of this not inconsiderably-sized slice of your base.
The decision to leave the rest of us out of the Official Quest racket was a bad one. Were it not not for the awesome members of the comm, we might never have the chance to see them.
Give us the quests!
