Tactical Demo: Terra and Kuja VS Garland

Here’s a demonstration of Mama Bear and Papa Wolf’s abilities. SPECIAL NOTE: Terra’s squishy because her level’s below the threshold for the course—I’m using a level accessory that requires me sticking a level under 20.
Note how even after being nerfed, Terra has some of the highest damage output in the game still. Also note that the Holy Combo that ends the battle never connected with its first hits…
They cover all of the range increments between them, and if you watch carefully, at that last combo? Terra’s Holy didn’t have the time to hit. She combos into Flare and Ultima off of Kuja’s hit.
Yep.
The build information is on the original Youtube Vid.
Epic music just because.
Hmm...
Date: 2011-07-11 11:32 pm (UTC)Yeah, I've got holy equip. I just suck when it comes to timing. (So Theatrhythm will be me throwing the new 3DS around and having an 013!Kuja-esque tantrum most of the time)
Unless you have Kefka vs Golbez whilst theme of love is playing. Actually any character combination with theme of love is hilarious. Unless it's you know...Cecil vs Golbez, Laguna vs Squall, Zidane vs Kuja or Jecht vs Tidus... Or 'Basch' vs Gabranth...
Even though it wasn't random I absoloutely adored that Dark Messenger plays during Zidane and Kuja's fight in report 01 (since it's the track during your last fight with Kuja in FFIX and afterwards he redeems himself) which is an ironic reversal in that Kuja's trying to save his younger brother and fight for a good cause but will inevitably turn evil. Yeah, I'mma dork like that.
Hmm...So Desperado Chaos vs Cosmos you think? (I'd have given anything to fight against Cosmos. It would've made me respect her so much more just to see her take up arms and FIGHT LIKE A GODDESS!)
WILD THEORY UNDERNEATH BLACK BARS.
Date: 2011-07-11 11:47 pm (UTC)So the fact that I was sort of jamming on the button, saw the orbs NOT hit, and then still start the combo was pretty sweet.DAMMIT PHONE REPLACEMENT EATING MY DLC MONEY! MUST DOWNLOAD THIS GAME!
or not
Date: 2011-07-11 11:48 pm (UTC)I SUPPORT THIS THEORY!
Date: 2011-07-11 11:55 pm (UTC)I bestow upon you the best reason to buy this game:
How can you not love Zidane after that!?
Oh yeah and there's that sexy bitch villain to play it for as well...
Frankly I think the Stroper also counts as another best reason
Date: 2011-07-12 12:48 am (UTC)The gargoyles and epitaphs have that effect too
Date: 2011-07-12 12:54 am (UTC)But it's not as lulzy with them
Date: 2011-07-12 01:13 am (UTC)Speaking of soulcage, one of the people I watch on DA put up a very interesting theory that the final boss you fight in IX is/was what used to be Soulcage. Pretty interesting stuff.
Goblins...?
Date: 2011-07-12 01:28 am (UTC)Hmm...Well Necron is a giant can of worms there but FFIX Ultimania decrees that Soulcage was created by Garland 1000 years ago while Necron is at least implied to be related to the original crystal (which is where all life began) due to having power over death whilst Soulcage could only transport or discard souls, it could not revive them. Mind you S-E doesn't seem to want to give any information as to what Necron really is...they don't bother to explain him in the Ultimania and the closest we get is this in the FF 20th anniversary Ultimania:
Eternal Darkness [Necron]
Monster created by fear of death
A being awoken by the fear, despair, and hatred of Kuja, who discovered, with the fulfillment of his ambition near, that he had little time left to live. It rejects the cycle of life through the crystal and attempts to return every world, including Terra and Gaia, to nothing. The final enemy to confront Zidane’s team.

Date: 2011-07-12 01:56 am (UTC)Hmm, I think this was supposed to be in regards to the Iifa Tree and the cycle of souls. Defeating Soulcage does not inhibit the cycle, Garland confirms this:
"That is the center of the planet. The end and the beginning of the cycle of souls. The light remains Gaia's for now, but when the blue changes to crimson, all will belong to Terra, and its restoration will be complete. That is why I wrapped up the light in the Iifa Tree, to prevent the cycle of the judgment of souls on Gaia from inside the planet. Such is the Iifa Tree's true purpose, its true form. All you saw was its material form. The flow of Gaia's souls cannot be changed by stopping the disposal of the Mist."
Soulcage isn't talking about himself but rather his mission IMO.

Date: 2011-07-12 02:09 am (UTC)As for Sephiroth7734's reasoning as to why the world was covered in mist, that was actually the result of Kuja opening the doorway to Memoria. Since Memoria is made of the memories of all living things he needed to access souls from both crystals (Terra's crystal still existed due to being fused with Gaia's) in order to create the path to the original crystal which he would destroy and therefore take out all of existence with. Also Terra's attempt at assimilating Gaia had begun due to Kuja successfully killing enough people over the course of the game for Terra's cycle of souls to be strong enough to dominate Gaia's causing the Iifa Tree to have a violent reaction. The mist would've been spewed out as a side effect of said reaction.
Yeah, I kind of overthought FFIX's plot when it came to research for my giant Kuja analysis.

Date: 2011-07-12 02:21 am (UTC)Yes, I understand your grief over the lack of explination for Necron. Unfortunately it would seem that the developers want us all to have our own interpretation as to what he truly is rather than go to any effort as to creating a reason for his existence other than they need to have the party doing something else whilst Kuja atones. Though I believe their intention was for us to perceive Necron as life itself and so the party is fighting for their right to exist to the utmost extreme, culminating the theme of appreciating life for what it is and being your own person/taking destiny into your own hands. Because Kuja technically won the last battle and killed the party, they needed a deus ex machina to fix it and give the player a chance to WIN. That's what I assume the point of Necron was anyhow. It's the version that makes my brain hurt the least.
