The writing and characterization is superior to most traditional otome games in my opinion - even though Hatoful is on the surface a parody, it still has a large amount of depth and wit. Nageki, Kazuaki and Ryouta seem to be the characters closest to belonging in a real otome game while Okosan and Anghel are played for laughs and the rest are somewhere inbetween. Yuuya and Sakuya where the ones that threw me over the most because they were presented as comical for the first few parts of their routes and then development started to kick in and it was WHOA--- I can't merely laugh at these guys anymore! They've got feelings!
That's the proof of a really well written character - it doesn't matter what they are but WHO they are.
Yes, though I am still a little annoyed at how hard he was to pursue. Then Koyasu and his partridge sounds made it impossible to develop ill will towards the guy... Grrr!!! Though I don't get why people think it's fine that Shuu is a willing mass murderer/sadist and yet Sakuya is despised for being discriminate and elitist even though he's been raised to parrot those ideals and didn't choose to have them himself. Kind of goes against the messages the game was trying to give... :/
OHOHOHOHHOHOHOHO BOY... YES.
