Yesterday I actually made a dent in that case of writers' cramp by forcing myself to write anyway, trying to mechanically work on the idea until the usual flow began and it stopped feeling like work.  As usual I got my Last.FM going to help with that; my Zen was charging at the time.

Nothing got done until my radio managed to start buffering a track, got about a 1/32 note into it before pausing to get the rest of the data, but that was all I needed to hear, because I knew, with the sound of that amorphous electric guitar, that the track that was being queued was the Cocteau Twins' "Serpentskirt."  After that kicked in I kind of kicked back and relaxed, enjoying the sound of the track as I do, and listened.  By the time the track ended I'd gotten into the writing again.

Today, there isn't enough time to see if it works again; I have to go to algebra class in about fifteen minutes.  Tomorrow though, if work is slow, then I'll be writing like a madwoman.

Oh, you have a Zen. I have one back home, a Zen Microphoto. Unfortunately, there's no Linux compatibility, so that hasn't gotten use in a long while. Oh, and also, it doesn't have solid state memory, which isn't good for PMPs. I'll probably pass it on to my mom or something.

This is what I'm getting:

It has OGG Vorbis support. :D

*looks* Ohh, that's spiffeh. I'm going to have to look into one of those. I need more space and something that won't freak out in rapid changes of humidity/temperatures like a hard drive-based player occasionally can. (Sometimes Illinois can be Illinois-ing… *is promptly shot for the wordplay.* I'm guessing that "PMP" stands for 'portable media player,' though I've actually not bumped into the acronym.

The Ogg format support will come in handy, considering it's flash based. I could so go to town at an arcade equipped with an ITG machine (custom track uploads require OGG Vorbis formatting). :D As far as compatibility goes, I just make sure what I get works wherever I happen to be going. I tend to lurk around my cousins' who do a lot of mixing and sometimes I pimp tracks off of their machine for them. If I ever learn a Linux system I'll worry about that later, too; my next machine needs to be a sturdy, stable (and hopefully portable) workhorse.

ITG machine?

If you ever decide to use a Linux distribution, I'd recommend Kubuntu (http://www.kubuntu.org/). Easy to use, very customizable, etc. It's what I use. (It's like Ubuntu, made by the same company and with the same software available, but uses KDE instead of GNOME)

In The Groove. It's the American Version of DDR, which got bought out in a settlement dispute by Konami. (It's why the difficulty on standard DDR suddenly JUMPED to ridiculous heights.) The machines are equipped with a USB hub that lets you upload your scores, username, data, and custom tracks and stepcharts. It's how you can waltz into a local arcade and then RICK ROLL the competition literally. =D
