As far as I can tell, there hasn't been any sort of real, substantial change in the dating scene overall due to the proliferation of online dating. There are still people who place looks and money on the highest pedestal, people who will quickly bail when they realize that their current match's profile or pocketbook do not measure up to their lofty expectations; and there remain people who don't seem to care one way or the other about degree of (mainstream) attractiveness or monetary cushion.
Then again, looks will always play a part in dating—it is how attraction works, after all. As far as friendship goes, I don't care what someone looks like. I mean, I don't think I really have room to talk about how someone else looks. I'm pretty funny-looking.
