Tactical Demo: Terra and Kuja VS Garland

Here’s a demonstration of Mama Bear and Papa Wolf’s abilities.  SPECIAL NOTE:  Terra’s squishy because her level’s below the threshold for the course—I’m using a level accessory that requires me sticking a level under 20.

Note how even after being nerfed, Terra has some of the highest damage output in the game still. Also note that the Holy Combo that ends the battle never connected with its first hits…

They cover all of the range increments between them, and if you watch carefully, at that last combo?  Terra’s Holy didn’t have the time to hit.  She combos into Flare and Ultima off of Kuja’s hit.

Yep.

The build information is on the original Youtube Vid.

Epic music just because.

Su-Sugoi!!!

HNGGGHHHH---KUJA PIRATE!FOP DLC, I MUST HAVE YOU!!! *grabby hands*

Is that FFXIII DLC music...?

Why can't my Ultima tag-team do that!? *bashes fists on floor in childish rage*

(Please don't kill me for this but what happened with your annotations there?)

Also, found something with Shantotto on Pixiv for a change...

I honestly don't know and I'll try to fix it.

[identity profile] railenthe.livejournal.com 2011-07-11 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll admit it, I don't understand the interface yet. I'll try to fix it!

Watch your Holy-equip. If you have just Holy, it doesn't combo. You need 'Holy Combo' equipped for the chain.

Yep, XIII. Occasionally, once you have the DLC Music, instead of a 'normal' track one of them will queue up instead. Sometimes it's wildly inappropriate ("LET'S DO DIS, GOLBEZ!" *for some reason the music is Electric De Chocobo*).

!! MOOGLE LADDER LOL

Sometimes it works somehow. ("WE SHALL FIGHT TO THE END, MATEUS!" *Liberi Fatali*)

And sometimes it's just appropriate. ("OUR BATTLE IS DESTINED!" FFX's Final Battle*)

Speaking of music, now that you've beaten 000, occasionally in Order's Sanctuary, the music may default to Cantata Mortis & God In Fire.

I strongly suspect this is in reference to an Aborted Arc

Hmm...

[identity profile] toffeethesnob.livejournal.com 2011-07-11 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Hope it works out soon! (I'd love to here your comments)

Yeah, I've got holy equip. I just suck when it comes to timing. (So Theatrhythm will be me throwing the new 3DS around and having an 013!Kuja-esque tantrum most of the time)

Unless you have Kefka vs Golbez whilst theme of love is playing. Actually any character combination with theme of love is hilarious. Unless it's you know...Cecil vs Golbez, Laguna vs Squall, Zidane vs Kuja or Jecht vs Tidus... Or 'Basch' vs Gabranth...

Even though it wasn't random I absoloutely adored that Dark Messenger plays during Zidane and Kuja's fight in report 01 (since it's the track during your last fight with Kuja in FFIX and afterwards he redeems himself) which is an ironic reversal in that Kuja's trying to save his younger brother and fight for a good cause but will inevitably turn evil. Yeah, I'mma dork like that.

Hmm...So Desperado Chaos vs Cosmos you think? (I'd have given anything to fight against Cosmos. It would've made me respect her so much more just to see her take up arms and FIGHT LIKE A GODDESS!)

WILD THEORY UNDERNEATH BLACK BARS.

[identity profile] railenthe.livejournal.com 2011-07-11 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
See there it is: You need to have Holy Combo equipped to do the Flare-into-Ultima thing. And your opening to do it comes right as it first hits. So the fact that I was sort of jamming on the button, saw the orbs NOT hit, and then still start the combo was pretty sweet.

DAMMIT PHONE REPLACEMENT EATING MY DLC MONEY! MUST DOWNLOAD THIS GAME!

or not

[identity profile] railenthe.livejournal.com 2011-07-11 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, what's the deal with Preview not matching up with what posts?

I SUPPORT THIS THEORY!

[identity profile] toffeethesnob.livejournal.com 2011-07-11 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah...I guess I'll just have to hope I get lucky then.

I bestow upon you the best reason to buy this game:

How can you not love Zidane after that!?

Oh yeah and there's that sexy bitch villain to play it for as well...

Frankly I think the Stroper also counts as another best reason

[identity profile] alkonost-storm.livejournal.com 2011-07-12 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
*butts in* It can become "too soft to live" HOW LULZY IS THAT?! XD

The gargoyles and epitaphs have that effect too

[identity profile] toffeethesnob.livejournal.com 2011-07-12 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
Aw, I hear you on that! And of course taking down the braggot Soulcage who claims "I have seen the end of my thousand-year life, and it is not now. You cannot stop me. It is futile to even try." and then you get the 6 year old girl to cast life and instantly destroy him. EASIEST BOSS FIGHT EVAR!!! XD

But it's not as lulzy with them

[identity profile] alkonost-storm.livejournal.com 2011-07-12 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
That's to be expected with goblins and epitaphs though...and it's not as funny when they die >>

Speaking of soulcage, one of the people I watch on DA put up a very interesting theory that the final boss you fight in IX is/was what used to be Soulcage. Pretty interesting stuff.

Goblins...?

[identity profile] toffeethesnob.livejournal.com 2011-07-12 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
I'll admit that killing the gargoyle before it's animated by regular KO so that it falls over is lulzier...

Hmm...Well Necron is a giant can of worms there but FFIX Ultimania decrees that Soulcage was created by Garland 1000 years ago while Necron is at least implied to be related to the original crystal (which is where all life began) due to having power over death whilst Soulcage could only transport or discard souls, it could not revive them. Mind you S-E doesn't seem to want to give any information as to what Necron really is...they don't bother to explain him in the Ultimania and the closest we get is this in the FF 20th anniversary Ultimania:

Eternal Darkness [Necron]
Monster created by fear of death

A being awoken by the fear, despair, and hatred of Kuja, who discovered, with the fulfillment of his ambition near, that he had little time left to live. It rejects the cycle of life through the crystal and attempts to return every world, including Terra and Gaia, to nothing. The final enemy to confront Zidane’s team.

Re: Goblins...?

[identity profile] alkonost-storm.livejournal.com 2011-07-12 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
Yet Soulcage's last words were that he knew when and how he would die, and that it would not be at the Iifa Tree. It makes no sense for Square to toss that line in for no reason. *goes to look for theory*

Re: Goblins...?

[identity profile] toffeethesnob.livejournal.com 2011-07-12 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
Can you find me his last words please? (The game transcript I've got is failing me and I don't have a savefile close enough to the boss fight to access them immeadiately)

Hmm, I think this was supposed to be in regards to the Iifa Tree and the cycle of souls. Defeating Soulcage does not inhibit the cycle, Garland confirms this:

"That is the center of the planet. The end and the beginning of the cycle of souls. The light remains Gaia's for now, but when the blue changes to crimson, all will belong to Terra, and its restoration will be complete. That is why I wrapped up the light in the Iifa Tree, to prevent the cycle of the judgment of souls on Gaia from inside the planet. Such is the Iifa Tree's true purpose, its true form. All you saw was its material form. The flow of Gaia's souls cannot be changed by stopping the disposal of the Mist."

Soulcage isn't talking about himself but rather his mission IMO.

Re: Goblins...?

[identity profile] alkonost-storm.livejournal.com 2011-07-12 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
I sent the link in a pm. That should explain everything better than I can.

Re: Goblins...?

[identity profile] toffeethesnob.livejournal.com 2011-07-12 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
I have to say I disagree. Primarily due to the Ultimania information given about Soulcage but also because Soulcage seems unable to even consider reasoning with mortals whilst Necron does.

As for Sephiroth7734's reasoning as to why the world was covered in mist, that was actually the result of Kuja opening the doorway to Memoria. Since Memoria is made of the memories of all living things he needed to access souls from both crystals (Terra's crystal still existed due to being fused with Gaia's) in order to create the path to the original crystal which he would destroy and therefore take out all of existence with. Also Terra's attempt at assimilating Gaia had begun due to Kuja successfully killing enough people over the course of the game for Terra's cycle of souls to be strong enough to dominate Gaia's causing the Iifa Tree to have a violent reaction. The mist would've been spewed out as a side effect of said reaction.

Yeah, I kind of overthought FFIX's plot when it came to research for my giant Kuja analysis.

Re: Goblins...?

[identity profile] alkonost-storm.livejournal.com 2011-07-12 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
Well I just wanted to show you because it was an interesting theory...And while Ultimanias are usually the Ultimate Word of God for game content, their explanation for Necron just comes of as somewhat half-assed. It doesn't help they don't try to give some more info.

Re: Goblins...?

[identity profile] toffeethesnob.livejournal.com 2011-07-12 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
Oh I appreciate the thought, don't get me wrong, unfortunately I tend to get a little...um...intense when it comes to Final Fantasy IX.

Yes, I understand your grief over the lack of explination for Necron. Unfortunately it would seem that the developers want us all to have our own interpretation as to what he truly is rather than go to any effort as to creating a reason for his existence other than they need to have the party doing something else whilst Kuja atones. Though I believe their intention was for us to perceive Necron as life itself and so the party is fighting for their right to exist to the utmost extreme, culminating the theme of appreciating life for what it is and being your own person/taking destiny into your own hands. Because Kuja technically won the last battle and killed the party, they needed a deus ex machina to fix it and give the player a chance to WIN. That's what I assume the point of Necron was anyhow. It's the version that makes my brain hurt the least.

Re: Goblins...?

[identity profile] alkonost-storm.livejournal.com 2011-07-12 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
Understood. Moving on to another subject where can you get Ultimanias? I've never seen them in stores...or is it a Japan only thing D:

Re: Goblins...?

[identity profile] toffeethesnob.livejournal.com 2011-07-12 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
Yep. Japan only sadly. No english equivalent. *sigh* You can buy them from amazon.jp if you have an account (which is how I got them) but the shipping fees are atrocious so it's best only done if you desperately want them. I am tempted to get VII's but I don't get quite as excited about it as I do with Dissidia or IX...

Re: Goblins...?

[identity profile] alkonost-storm.livejournal.com 2011-07-12 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
WTH SQUARE? Y U DO THIS TO YOUR WESTERN FANS =C

Re: Goblins...?

[identity profile] toffeethesnob.livejournal.com 2011-07-12 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
*sigh* I know. And they denied us quests too...

(I want them so badly. Especially Cecil and Sephiroth's 013 ones... They contain lovely Kujie-cooness... WHY HASN'T THE POSTMAN DELIVERED MY COPY OF JP 012 YET!?)

REUSING MY WTF ICON!

And when I watch the vid, there aren't any annotations there. Maybe I need to re-embed it to reflect this.

That's the Theme that plays during the Barty fights

I HATED HOW THAT THING SEEMED TO ADD TO MY ANXIETY REGARDING THE CHAPTER NINE BOSSFIGHT. BARTHANDELUS YOU ASSHOLE FFFFFFFFFFFFF---*long stream of expletives*
