Well hell.

Well, after a long day of work, I got the news—
Jeannie, as that one guy says in Snatch, is proper fucked.
The threats were a series of items: trojans, spyware, and something with an abbreviation that went “drp.” In hindsight that abbreviation was not too far off—the stuff set my computer to derping and now its couch is totally borked.
So now I'm waiting for a huge file backup in preparation for a total wipe and reinstall. Sweet Mercy, I have a lot of reinstalling to do...

Tidus's face says it all for me
Date: 2012-03-09 07:37 pm (UTC)I suppose the question is: can she still be properly salvaged?
I can't even begin to imagine the pain in the ass this must be (and up until recently I was the queen of computer derps!). Damn... I hope you're back with us soon!
You would not believe the pain in the ass that I currently face.
Date: 2012-03-09 09:23 pm (UTC)Thanks to a friend of mine who I now probably owe big time, the data is all safe, including the huge bank of music that I no longer have operational discs for
or just cannot be assed lolpirating on account of the damage/out of print statusand the documents that contain the opus are safely backed up in Dropbox.Hindsight: the other items in the writing folder are NOT backed up in Dropbox; I probably should have. Luckily the file folders were all clean, so Goddess willing this should be a non-issue.
The real pain in the ass will be the reinstalling and reauthorizations. I can't find the receipt that contained my serial number for Scrivener, and it's kind of essential for what I'm doing. The other program that I use, OmmWriter—its receipt I found right away. But it's looking like I'm going to have to contact their support team. And who knows how many days I'll lose in that kerfuffle.
