Zidane: "Hey, that's Ipsen's line."
Dagger: "Ipsen? Who's that?"
Zidane: "Ipsen is a character from a play, but he's a real-life adventurer. I think the play is based on his adventures. It kind of goes like this... Ipsen and his good friend Colin worked at a tavern in Treno.
One day Ipsen got a letter. The letter was so wet from rain that most of the writing was illegible. The only part he could read said 'Come back home.' Nowadays, we have airships and stuff, but back then, it was really hard to travel. He didn't know why he had to go back, but he got some time off, gathered his things, and set out on his journey home. He walked a thousand leagues through the Mist. Sometimes he was attacked by vicious monsters, but he made it, because his friend Colin was by his side. And then, after much time on the road... He had to ask Colin something. 'Why did you come with me?'"
Dagger: "And? What was Colin's answer?"
Zidane: "'Only because I wanted to go with you.'"
Happy 14th, Final Fantasy IX!

Date: 2014-07-08 01:26 am (UTC)You can tell I'm a good FFIX fan when I completely forget its anniversary. I really must be married to it!I can't believe it's been 14 years. In the back of my mind it's still only the other day I first saw it. Wow....I just realized it's been over 14 years since I first heard of FF...... I still think of it as the last part of my childhood and in a way I really did grow up with the series...
Thing I remember most is reading the strategy guide whilst listening to the MIDI tracks (as I'd yet to find a copy of the game) and being taken aback by the sublime imagination involved. There was such a rich world of illusion and I remember just daydreaming about PLAYING the game and witnessing that world for myself. I think we all have a work that enchants in such a way it helps shape who we are to some degree whether its in our creativity or our choices in life and for me that's what FFIX was. So much of my growth as a writer and artist was thanks to that game - I used to transcribe it, sketch the scenes out, try my very first attempts at fic with it... it's impossible to think of my life without this game, it's just that important.
Thank you, FFIX, for more than I can possibly say.
